Background: Esmeralda spent most of her early years in a transitive state, never really able to get too comfortable in one place. As a quintessential army brat, any semblance of friends she may have made or relationships forged were either forgotten or put on hiatus as she was shipped off to the next base, the next city, the next country. A possessor of a quiet, but fiery temper, she frequently got into fights before and after classes, and was no stranger to conflict. This way of life hardened her exterior significantly and led to many people wisely keeping their distance from her.
As her outbursts drew further attention to her condition, she was directed to channel her fury into the boxing ring as a method of coping. At first, her style was very crude and coarse, showing a distinct lack of self-preservation in the face of bullrushing the person in the opposite corner at all costs. As such, she served as a human punching bag for some time until she learned better control over herself and her actions. Once she reached that point however, she became a true force to be reckoned with, one that many recruits were afraid to even be in the gym with at the same time.
In adulthood, Esmeralda decided to use her gift for combat, taking up work as a personal bodyguard. She protected foreign dignitaries, high-ranking politicians, CEOs and important businessmen, anyone with power that needed protection and had the money to pay for it. Obviously, there was no shortage of conflict in this line of work, and Esmeralda reveled in the bountiful opportunities to put her violent talents to work. As fate would have it, one of her contracts was a major source of funding behind a new up and coming boxing league, and seeing the golden opportunity, commissioned his bodyguard to take part…
Personality: Esmeralda's demeanor is a slow burn. Normally somewhat quiet, she does not care to mince words. However, this should not be immediately mistaken for open hostility or contempt. She is straightforward, focused on the task at hand, whatever it may be. She has strong conviction, and is fearless in the face of certain danger. She has absolutely no qualms with throwing herself headlong directly into the line of fire if the situation calls for it in order to protect a client. In the boxing ring, she is a commanding presence, fearsome, and relentless.
Strengths: First and foremost are the fruits of Esmeralda’s hard life and intensive training; a rock-hard body that can endure far beyond what the average person is capable of. Her physical strength is monumental, her drive exceptional. Very familiar with pain, she is readily able to nearly ignore it entirely in the pursuit of her goals.
Weaknesses: Esmeralda’s tank-like exterior comes at a cost; her footwork and movements, while above average, still manage to come across somewhat grudgingly. Though she can clear distance when the situation calls for it, her speed can sometimes lead to predictability, leaving her open to preemptive strikes, countermoves and the like.
Boxing Strategy: Esmeralda goes into bouts looking to KO, plain and simple. Although she doesn’t mind going the distance when she has to, she’d much rather aim to overpower her opposition, battering them mercilessly until they can no longer continue. To that end, she is willing to trudge forward through hits, preferring to give and take in order to deliver her devastating bombs with little pretense. And once she hits, it WILL hurt. Like most sluggers, her best punches come in the form of short range hooks, uppercuts and crushing haymakers. In order to get into the required range to throw them, Esmeralda will prod mercilessly with heavy, jackhammer jabs, blocking incoming hits when she can with her gloves and powerful forearms more often than dodging.
Boxing vs Esmeralda: Though she is not quite as stubborn as she was in her younger years, Esmeralda still relies on her considerable toughness in order to get in. Her actually getting there is quite a frightening prospect however, so it would be in an opponent’s best interest to keep her out to the best of one’s ability. It would be wise for a boxer looking to take down Esmeralda to pay close attention to her movement and attack patterns, staying clear when she presses inward and scoring cleanly when she presents openings. If a way is found to actually stun or hurt her, Esmeralda can be dispatched by a fighter who pays due diligence and makes the most of every opportunity.
